Sam's Club fundraiser for AbigailsArmy.com

The nice people at SAMs club are allowing us to set up to help raise funds for sweet Abigail. If you aren't familiar with Abigail she is a 3 year old friend of our daughters that was diagnosed with childhood cancer. You can donate and read more about her at AbigailsArmy.com

We have been out to SAMs three times so far.  The first was incredible.  I worked the tent alone for most of the day.  I literally could not make the kettle corn fast enough.  Oh my, it was non-stop!  I loved it.  We raised over $500 for the family the very first day!! Incredible!!  So many kind people donated or bought a bag of Kentucky Kettle Corn (we donated a portion of each sale). It really is amazing the generosity of some people.  With most news stories being of crazy people full of hate, you start to lose faith in the general public. But. Today, I was reminded that good people are still out there. Helping people they don't even know!  Donating either their hard earned money or donating products for a silent auction or however they can get involved and help.  It is really refreshing and inspiring to see and talk to these amazing people that walk amongst us everyday without any recognition of their good deeds.  Unbelievable. I am so honored to be a part of this fundraiser and meet and talk with these unrecognized heros.

We are working with SAMs to get some more fundraiser dates.  Hopefully I will have some info soon.

If you want to help out this family. It is not too late. You can donate at AbigailsArmy.com or send us an email at KentuckyKettleCorn@gmail.com and let us know how you want to help.

Thank you all!!

Kite Fest - Georgetown, KY

Here we are in Georgetown, KY on this beautiful sunny Sunday April 26th!  The Georgetown Rotary Club puts on a Kite Fest every year.  This year marks the "15th Annual Georgetown International & Cultural Kite Festival". When I sent off my email asking if they had a Kettle Corn vendor, I was certain that I would hear they were all set.  Nope!!  I'm in! Since we are new to the kettle corn business I get really excited when I get into annual events!  Especially great events like a Kite Fest.  Who doesn't enjoy seeing hundreds of kites flying high, kids running around having a blast and seeing families spending quality time with their kids? That being said, my 2 year old daughter was at home with my wife and I am here working. (insert sad face here) Aside from that, I have been looking forward to this event for a while.

So... Saturday it is pouring down rain and the event is rained out.  (Insert another sad face here)

Sunday!  A beautiful day!  Kite fest starts at Noon and goes till 5pm.

Along with kites they had other entertainment.  They had some live bands, dancers, etc.

It is a very nice event.  The wind was perfect for kite flying.

I often think about my daughter when I am out popping corn and missing her.  This was definitely one of those moments.  I saw an Ariel kite.  My daughter loves princesses and loves Ariel.  I really wish she was here with me.

There were hundreds of kites that went up.  Not all of them came down. A few got caught in some power lines.  ðŸ˜© I feel bad for the kids that lost their kites.  It really was a great day.

Overall we did well and had a nice time. I hope to be a part of this event next year. Maybe in 2016 the weather will cooperate with us and give us two days of kite flying & kettle corn selling.

For more information check out the Georgetown Rotary Clubs website for kite fest at www.kitefest.com

Thanks!

Mitch

Jessamine County Youth Baseball

Well.  I hate to see Spring baseball come to an end.  I really enjoyed being out at the ball fields, meeting so many great people.  I really want to thank everyone for welcoming me and being so nice. With the exception of two kids,  I have come to the conclusion that Jessamine county people are genuinely nice people.

I did have two, not so nice kids, saying not so nice words, trying to cause trouble. One climbed under my table while the other grabbed a bag of my corn and proceeded to run off. About 25 feet from my tent I caught up with him and retrieved the bag of corn. I think he was surprised to find out that crime doesn't pay.  Hopefully he learned something from the whole ordeal.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of Papa Murphy's Pizza in Nicholasville.  He is a somewhat quiet guy but was super nice to me as a new business owner.  If you are in the mood for pizza. Consider visiting his store and supporting us small business owners.

I also met some friendly people from Zaxby's.  Danica the Manager of the store is super sweet! I felt sorry for Little Zack on those hot days.  I have been inside one of those costumes before and let me tell you, it is not cool. It is a blast entertaining people, you can be as silly as you want to be and no one knows who you are. You have to be careful, if you don't have an ice vest on, on hot days you can quickly overheat inside those costumes.  Zaxby's had a meal deal that I couldn't pass up.  A chicken sandwich, bag a chips, cookie and a drink for $5.  So I knew I was good for lunch as soon as I saw them arrive and unload the tent!    My family and I loved Zaxby's prior to this and meeting such nice people just increases the amount of love we have for the Nicholasville Zaxby's.  I'm sure the Lexington Locations have nice people too, but the Nicholasville staff will be hard to beat.

I think there is one more tournament in July, and I plan on making it out for that.

So the tournament happened before I had a chance to publish this blog. Again I met some extremely nice people from all over Kentucky.  Kettle corn sales were down though.  There was a decent turnout for the tournament but there are definitely more people during the regular season. I think this is due to them charging admission to watch the tournament games. Oh well.  It was a beautiful day. Live and learn. Next year I won't be doing the tournament games.

I appreciate the opportunity that JCYB has given me to be a part of this years Spring Ball.  Maybe I will see you next spring!
